The Delaware Skin Care and Skin Cancer Center specializes in advance skin care, as well as the prevention and treatment of skin cancer.
Our philosophy is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So, we are very proactive in our approach to skin care. Should patients have pre-cancer or cancer issues, we aggressively provide treatments. Our treatments begin with minimally invasive procedures and proceed to our goal of getting patients cancer free.
We provide comprehensive skin care treatments, and specialized surgical treatments – such as Moh's Micro- graphic Excision – in a setting that is supportive, reassuring, comfortable and convenient.
Know that the cost of skin cancer treatment and reconstruction is covered by Medicare and most insurance companies.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. More than 2 people die of skin cancer in the U.S. every hour. Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk for melanoma. When detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99 percent.
• In the U.S., more than 9,500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every day.
• 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.
• At least one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.
• Actinic keratosis is the most common precancer; it affects more than 58 million Americans.
• About 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.
• The diagnosis and treatment of nonmelanoma skin cancers in the U.S. increased by 77 percent between 1994 and 2014.
• Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer. An estimated 4.3 million cases of BCC are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.
• An estimated 90 percent of skin aging is caused by the sun.
• People who use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher daily show 24 percent less skin aging than those who do not use sunscreen daily.
• Sun damage is cumulative. Only about 23 percent of lifetime exposure occurs by age 18.
Moh's surgery is a highly effective treatment for certain types of skin cancer. It is an advanced procedure during which pieces of the skin cancer are repeated removed surgically and examined microscopically until all of the skin cancer cells have been removed.
We have been performing the Mohs procedure along with the reconstruction of the affected area for approximately 12 years. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia is therefore very safe. We have treated hundreds of patients with a success rate of greater than 95%.
Sometimes the reconstruction after the skin cancer is removed will require anesthesia and medical clearance may be necessary.
Mohs procedure is covered by Medicare and insurance.

Intense pulsed light, commonly abbreviated as IPL, is a new technology, used to treat conditions that traditionally have been treated by lasers. Lasers use a strong beam of energy to treat lesions, tattoos, wrinkles, unwanted hair. Almost all laser treatments involve injury to the outer layer of skin as well as to the area being treated.
For example, CO2 lasers have been used for a long time to treat aging skin, uneven pigmentation, and wrinkles. But this type of laser treatment causes an injury to the outer layer of skin, which takes many weeks to heal.
IPL, in contrast, utilizes a broad spectrum of light energy to penetrate the skin. Targets for IPL include hair follicles, pigment, collagen, and small blood vessels.
The outer layer of the skin remains intact with IPL, and there is no downtime. Patients may return to work/social activities without a lengthy recuperation and without complicated skin care regimens.
Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks.
Microdermabrasion helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that’s abundant when you’re a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.
Glycolic peels can improve the skin's appearance. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it "blister" and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
Acne treatment depends on whether you have a mild, moderate, or severe type of acne. Sometimes a combination of treatments is necessary to get the best results and to avoid developing drug-resistant bacteria. Treatments could include lotions or gels you put on blemishes or sometimes entire areas of skin, such as the chest or back (topical medicines). You might also take oral medicines.
Treating Rosacea varies depending on severity and subtypes. A subtype-directed approach to treating rosacea patients is recommended. Mild cases are often not treated at all, or are simply covered up with normal cosmetics. Therapy for the treatment of Rosacea is not curative, and is best measured in terms of reduction in the amount of inflammatory lesions, decrease in the number, duration, and intensity of flares, and concomitant symptoms of itching, burning, and tenderness. The two primary modalities of Rosacea treatment are topical and oral antibiotic agents. Laser therapy is also used as a form of treatment.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT), sometimes called photochemotherapy, is a form of phototherapy using nontoxic light-sensitive compounds that are exposed selectively to light, whereupon they become toxic to targeted malignant and other diseased cells. PDT has proven ability to kill microbial cells, including bacteria, fungi and viruses. PDT is popularly used in treating acne. It is used clinically to treat a wide range of medical conditions, including wet age-related macular degeneration and malignant cancers, and is recognized as a treatment strategy which is both minimally invasive and minimally toxic.
