Facial Procedures

Facial features are important aspects of our communications! Surgical techniques can considerably enhance the way you look by elevating your cheeks, improving the appearance of the lower eyelids, or reshaping your nose. These and other procedures provide a natural fresh look for your face. Dr. Schmidt uses advanced techniques to hide scars.

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift:

  • • Reduces the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead, as well as those that occur on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
  • • Improves frown lines, the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
  • • Raises sagging brows that are hooding the upper eyelids
  • • Places the eyebrows in an alert and youthful position

Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear. Otoplasty can correct a defect in the ear structure that is present at birth that becomes apparent with development or it can treat misshapen ears caused by injury. Ear surgery creates a natural shape, while bringing balance and proportion to the ears and face. Correction of even minor deformities can have profound benefits to appearance and self-esteem.

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert.

If you are bothered by signs of aging in your face, face-lift surgery may be right for you.

Technically known as rhytidectomy, a face-lift is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:

  • • Sagging in the mid-face
  • • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
  • • Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
  • • Fat that has fallen or is displaced
  • • Loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls
  • • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin
  • • Rejuvenation procedures typically performed in conjunction with a face-lift are brow lift, to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow, and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.

Facial contouring surgery can give your face a more youthful look or improve the shape of features such as the nose, chin or ears. Facial implants may help to enhance or augment the physical structure of your face. It’s important to remember that all of our faces are asymmetric to some degree and your results may not be completely symmetric. The goal is to create balance and proportion. Your procedure may be performed alone, or as a complement to other facial contouring procedures.

The mid-face is an essential component of an attractive face. With the aging process, the fatty tissue that normally drapes over the cheekbones can begin to sag with gravity. The result is less prominent cheekbones, and a droopy fold of skin and fat between the nose and the cheek (the nasolabial fold). The sagging cheek fat can also alter the appearance of the lower cheek. Using minimally invasive cheek and mid-face lift techniques with limited incisions, the droopy cheek tissue can be lifted up over the cheekbone restoring the more prominent youthful contour, improving the tear trough and bagginess of the lower lids, and softening the undesirable cheek fold.

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck, such as: excess fat and skin relaxation in the lower face that creates jowls, excess fatty deposits under the chin, loose neck skin, and muscle banding in the neck ( which creates abnormal contours). The loss of youthful contours in the face and neck can be due to a variety of factors, including heredity, gravity, environmental conditions, and stress. Some people feel they are not ready for a full facelift because the upper face is still pleasing. However, many patients will note excess wrinkling of the neck skin, a “turkey wattle” or double chin, and jowl lines. When the neck area doesn’t match the upper facial appearance, a neck lift may be a good solution.

Injectables

Plastic surgery offers you many options to enhance parts of your body or to restore your body to a more healthy and attractive state. These surgical procedures help to improve your self-confidence and give you a better body image.

There are a variety of procedures ranging from targeting small areas of the body (for example, removing excess fat from the chin and neck) to larger procedures (for example, contouring large areas of the body after significant weight loss).

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time. Eight out of ten women achieved clinically significant results at day 30 in clinical trials.1 Results may vary.

This procedure removes a patient’s own fat from on area of the body and re-implants it in another. It is typically extracted from the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, and injected into an area that requires plumping, such as a patient’s facial features. When used as a facial filler, fat grafting can improve the creased and sunken areas of the face, and add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Fat grafting is also commonly used in buttocks augmentation, usually in place of traditional butt implants.

Juvederm, an injectable filler, is used to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles in the faces of patients. The substance is largely hyaluronic acid. Approved in June 2006 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Juvederm’s prime use is in removing nasolabial folds, or “smile lines,” creases of skin which run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. It is also used as a lip augmentation agent, and to fill in hollow places and scars on the face. However, all hyaluronic acid facial filler products are eventually absorbed by the body, usually within six to nine months, requiring patient to undergo repeated injections to maintain a younger look.

As part of the aging process, your own natural collagen breaks down. This loss of elasticity and volume results in wrinkles, facial lines and skin laxity that take away the youthful appearance from your face. Radiesse is a volumising filler that brings back your own natural collagen to smooth out the signs of aging.

Breast Procedures

Dr. Schmidt can create fuller, firmer breasts to complement your natural body curvature through augmentation, lift and reduction. He uses advanced techniques that provide outstanding aesthetic results with minimal scarring.

Dr. Schmidt can enhance the size and shape of your breasts for a number of reasons:

  • → to enhance breast size, and
  • → to balance a difference in breast size.

Please call us, for more information.

Breast augmentation surgery involves using breast implants or fat, referred to as fat transfer breast augmentation, to increase the size of your breasts or restore breast volume that has been lost after weight reduction or pregnancy. Breast augmentation is clinically referred to as augmentation mammaplasty. One of the benefits of breast augmentation is to enhance your self-image and self-confidence.

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. New statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show breast lifts have grown 70% since 2000, out-pacing breast implants 2-to-1. A woman’s breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity can result from:

  • • Pregnancy
  • • Breastfeeding
  • • Weight fluctuations
  • • Aging
  • • Gravity
  • • Heredity

A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted.

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that:

  • • Reduces excess sagging skin that droops downward
  • • Tightens and smooths the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm
  • • Reduces localized pockets of fat in the upper arm region

Fluctuations in weight, growing older, and heredity can cause your upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance. This is a condition that cannot be corrected through exercise. Arm lift surgery may be right for you if the underside of your upper arms are sagging or appear loose and full due to excess skin and fat.

Dr. Schmidt offers tumescent liposuction to safely sculpt body features by removing diet and exercise resistant fat in areas such as the abdomen, hips and thighs. This method results in a quick recovery time and can produce unsurpassed cosmetic results. Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Thigh lift surgery reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body. If fitness and weight loss efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, a surgical lift may be right for you.

By removing excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, Dr. Schmidt can provide a flatter, smoother look. His "mini-tuck" is designed to prevent the incisions from ever being seen. And you'll feel confident knowing that Dr. Schmidt trained under one of the innovators of abdominoplasty.

What is an Abdominoplasty?
An abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck," is a surgical procedure for those with a protruding belly and/or weakened abdominal muscles. Candidates for this surgery include those who have a loose or flabby abdominal area despite conscientious dieting and exercise, especially women who've had one or more children.

The Surgery
During a tummy tuck, excess skin and fat from your middle and lower abdomen are removed, and your abdominal muscles are tightened. The surgery involves a long incision, extending the length of your lower belly, and a second incision around your umbilicus, (belly button). A flap of abdominal skin is then lifted up, and the muscles underneath are sewn into a tighter and lower position in the abdomen. The flap is then pulled and tightened, removing any excess skin, (and many stretch marks, if present), from your belly.
