Mohs Certified Skin Cancer Treatment next prev

  • Mohs surgery is a microscopically controlled surgical technique that is used to treat common types of skin cancer. During the surgery, after each removal of tissue, the pathologist examines the tissue specimen for cancer cells, while the patient waits. The examination informs the surgeon where to remove additional tissue, if necessary. Because the Mohs procedure is micrographically controlled, it provides precise removal of the cancerous tissue, while healthy tissue is spared.
  • Mohs surgery is one of the many methods of obtaining complete removal of a skin cancer. The cure rate with Mohs surgery cited by most studies is between 97% and 99.8% for primary basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer. The Mohs procedure is also used for squamous cell carcinoma, but with a slightly lower cure rate.
